Our Commitment to Quality

In 1962, a group of visionaries, led by Edward L. Roach, embarked on a journey to create a new kind of organization whose mission was to advocate for Nova Scotia’s most vulnerable population. What began as a community effort to address the housing needs of Halifax’s senior population, eventually grew into a social movement to change how Nova Scotia cared for those requiring ongoing support.

Today, Northwood serves over 6,500 people every day. Along the way, the profile of our client has evolved. In addition to residential living, we also reach out to those living in the community by providing support and peace of mind when needed. In recent years, we have also seen a rise in our young or young at young client base and extend our hand out to those interesting in partnering with us to explore innovative new approaches to community engagement.

Through all the changes, we have consistently remained true to our founding values. We believe in using our voice to influence positive change and hold each other accountable for our actions.

We are guided by a singular purpose: we can always do better. We value our ability to challenge the status quo in pursuing new opportunities.

We measure success not in profits, but in smiles, happiness and love.

Invest in the future of seniors across Nova Scotia – invest in your own future.
