* – After a review of data from the Nova Scotia Health Authority, two staff have now been excluded from the Northwood outbreak because they did not work at the facility during their incubation period. So they were not associated with the outbreak in the Halifax facility, and thus have been removed from these statistics.

Non-perishable drop-offs
During these difficult times, it is important to do what we can for the mental well-being of all Northwood residents. We know that isolation from loved ones is very difficult. Starting on May 26th (using the proper precautions) Northwood is now able to accept family drop-offs of non-perishable items.

Deliveries will only be accepted from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Tuesday to Friday. Deliveries are limited to family and substitute decision-makers. At this time, we are not able to accept deliveries from the general public. We are also not able to receive perishable items, including flowers, due to the quarantine process. Due to the closure of our smoking room at our Halifax Campus, we are no longer accepting deliveries of tobacco products. The Bedford Campus however, is still accepting tobacco products. All items must be of a reasonable size. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to accept large items such as chairs and televisions.

All items will be bagged and quarantined for 72 hours. A delivery form will need to be filled out and bagged along with the item. If you wish to bring your loved ones’ change of seasonal clothing, please put the clothing into a suitcase and deliver it to the Centre desk. The suitcase will be quarantined for 72 hours and then the staff will switch the clothing from winter to summer. The winter clothing will then be packed in the suitcase for pick up.

We hope these drop-offs will help in a small way to bring residents and their loved ones closer together during these uncertain times.

By registering, you would be volunteering to provide a regular social call to an older adult living alone. Facility cases (total): 307 (+2 new)
Resident cases: 220 (no change)
Resident recoveries: 22 in the recovery unit (+6 new)
Deaths: 32 (+1 new)
Employee cases: 87 (+2 new)
Employee recoveries: 25 (+7 new)

Additional information – We are saddened to confirm the death of an additional Northwood resident as a result of complications due to COVID-19. With each passing, we are heartbroken for the loved ones of the resident and for the entire Northwood community. We have been in touch with the resident’s family to offer our condolences and extend our support.

There are an additional six residents who have recovered, bringing the total number of residents at the off-site recovery unit to 22.

Additional information – Northwood is very saddened to confirm that six additional residents have passed away due to complications related to COVID-19. This has been an incredibly heartbreaking time, and we send our deepest sympathies and condolences to the loved ones of those who have passed. We have been in direct contact with the families of the residents to share our thoughts and extend our support.

There are still a total of 16 residents who are at the off-site recovery unit.

On Saturday, Northwood President and CEO Janet Simm addressed the Northwood community to provide an update on the situation, share condolences, thank frontline staff and express gratitude for community support.

A MESSAGE TO THE NORTHWOOD COMMUNITY

On Saturday May 2, Northwood President and CEO Janet Simm recorded a message to the Northwood community. She shared condolences to the loved ones of those who have passed due to COVID-19, thanked the continued valiant efforts of the front line workers, and commended the families of residents and the local community for their cooperation and continued support.

This has been a very difficult situation and we express our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the residents who have passed away. Additional information – Northwood is saddened to confirm the death of one additional resident. This is very difficult news and we extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the deceased. We have been in contact with the resident’s next of kin to offer our thoughts and support.

Northwood has transitioned four more residents to our off-site recovery unit. There are now 16 total residents who are at the recovery unit.
