Community Distinction Award: Claire Pottie
Claire’s community service began at the age of 14 when she became a volunteer with the Red Cross. Her first introduction to the Northwood Community came in the late 1980s, as her “spare” Mom Jean became a resident at the Halifax Campus. Her father-in-law, and later her Dad, spent their last days in the Northwood community as well.
When plans for Ivany Place were first proposed, Claire attended initial meetings, along with the late Father Lloyd O’Neill, who was at the time interim pastor of Saint Ignatius Parish in Bedford. Since the day Ivany Place opened it’s doors, her church has celebrated Mass nearly every Saturday morning of the year at Northwood. Claire has assisted with memorial services, serves on the pastoral care team, and provides the Sacrament of the Sick multiple times per year to all residents who wish to receive it. Claire is currently the Outreach Coordinator for Seniors Ministries and Committees at St. Ignatius, as well as Director of Liturgy and oversees all volunteer positions.
