Dr. Diane Swinemar

Dianne M. Swinemar, M.M., DCnL, D.C.L., retired from the position of Executive Director of FEED Nova Scotia in 2014. Between 1991 and 2014, she provided strong leadership in overseeing the organization’s growth from the Metro Food Bank Society, serving residents of the Halifax, to a vital provincial organization serving all of Nova Scotia.

Dr. Swinemar also held many leadership roles with Food Banks Canada as well as served on and chaired numerous national committees. She led research into the causes, conditions and consequences of hunger and poverty particularly as they appear locally, provincially and nationally.  Dr. Swinemar has received many awards as recognition of her work including the Governor General’s Diamond Jubilee Award (2013) and the Queen Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), the Elizabeth Ann Seton Award from the Sisters of Charity (2008) and the City of Halifax 250th Anniversary Gold Medal (2006). She has also earned a Masters of Management degree and received several honourary degrees from local universities.
